María Elena Torre

María Elena Torre is the Director and co-founder of the Public Science Project and faculty member inCritical Social Psychology and Urban Education at the CUNY Graduate Center.

A mama of a very cool 11 year old, she has conducted critical participatory action research with schools, prisons, and community-based organizations for the last 20 years and continues to be interested in how democratic methodologies, radical inclusion, and a praxis of solidarity can inform public science in support of justice movements. She is a co-author of Echoes of Brown: Youth Documenting and Performing the Legacy of Brown v. Board of Education and Changing Minds: The Impact of College on a Maximum Security Prison.
