Monica Szlekovics
Monica Szlekovics is a dedicated advocate and professional with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Marymount Manhattan College. With over two decades of lived experience she is dedicated to empowering incarcerated survivors of domestic violence and advancing social justice initiatives.
Currently serving as a Project Coordinator at the Survivors Justice Project (SJP) since July 2022, Monica facilitates and supports SJP projects, develops training programs and curriculum, and engages in community outreach efforts. As an Advisory Committee Member for SJP since May 2020, she is deeply involved in developing resources to educate stakeholders on issues related to the criminalization of survivors, bolstering community support initiatives, and advocating for alternative sentencing under the DVSJA.
Previously, Monica held positions such as Program Assistant at Marymount Manhattan College, where she excelled in student record management, faculty support, and leadership roles on advisory boards and conference planning committees. She also contributed her skills as a Fellow at The Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, focusing on program planning and research aimed at social justice reform. With a passion for justice and empowerment, Monica advocates for the rights of justice impacted communities and leads initiatives that challenge systemic issues related to the criminalization of survivors. She regularly presents on domestic violence, trauma, and incarceration, and is an accomplished artist and published essayist.
